Loki flees but the gods find him disguised as a salmon at a waterfall. They seize him and take his sons Váli and Narfi. The gods change Váli into a wolf who tears Narfi apart. With Narfi's entrails they bind Loki against a rock in a cave. A serpent hangs above him and drips corrosive venom. His wife Sigyn holds a bowl to catch the poison, but when she carries it away to empty it, Loki writhes and earthquakes arise.
Æsirnir leituðu Loka ok fundu hann í fossi í lax-líkingu. Þeir gripu hann ok fóru með hann í helli nökkurn. Þá váru teknir synir Loka, Váli ok Narfi. Brugðu æsir Vála í vargs líki ok reif hann í sundr Narfa bróður sinn. Þá tóku æsir þarma hans ok bundu Loka þar með. Skaði festi orm yfir hann svá at eitrið draup á andlit Loka.
The gods searched for Loki and found him in a waterfall in the shape of a salmon. They seized him and brought him to a cave. Then Loki's sons were taken, Váli and Narfi. The gods changed Váli into a wolf, and he tore his brother Narfi apart. Then the gods took his entrails and bound Loki with them. Skaði fastened a serpent above him so that the venom dripped onto Loki's face.
Sigyn kona hans sitr hjá honum ok hefir mundlaug undir eitrinu. En þá er mundlaugin er full, gengr hún á brott at hella, ok meðan drýpr eitrið á hann. Þá kippist hann svá hart at jörðin skelfr. Þat er þat er menn kalla jarðskjálpta.
His wife Sigyn sits beside him and holds a basin under the venom. But when the basin is full she carries it away to empty it, and in the meantime the venom drips onto him. Then he writhes so violently that the earth shakes. That is what people call earthquakes.
