Bragi tells of Freyja's Brisingamen necklace: how she obtained it from four dwarves by sleeping with each of them, and how Loki later stole it on Odin's behalf. The tale explains why Freyja is called the keeper of the Brisingamen.
Freyja fór til dverga er bjuggu í helli. Þeir höfðu gert men fagrt ok gullsmiðat. Hún vildi kaupa menið, en dvergar vildu eigi selja fyr gulli eða silfri. Þeir mæltu at hún skyldi liggja hjá hverjum þeirra eina nótt.
Freyja went to the dwarves who dwelt in a cavern. They had crafted a beautiful necklace of gold. She wished to buy the necklace, but the dwarves would not sell it for gold or silver. They said she must lie with each of them for one night.
Eptir þetta stal Loki meninu at boði Óðins ok fœrði Óðni. Freyja fékk menið aftr þá er hún lofaði at gera tvær þjóðkonungar at berjast ævinliga með hermenn sína, nema kristinn maðr leysi þá.
Thereafter Loki stole the necklace at Odin's command and delivered it to Odin. Freyja received the necklace back after she promised that two great kings would fight forever with their warriors, unless a Christian man releases them.
