Mind, will, and thought regarded as a component of the soul's composition.

Hugr is a central component of the Old Norse conception of the soul. It denotes the active force of the personality, the will and the train of thought, and can detach from the body during dream or seiðr.

A person's hugr can make itself felt at a distance and influence others. Compounds such as hugfullr (courageous) and huglauss (cowardly) show that hugr was closely linked to moral character and social standing.
