Bragi is the god of poetry, renowned for his eloquence and wisdom. His wife Iðunn keeps the apples that preserve the Æsir's youth. Without her the gods would age and wither.
One of them is called Bragi. He is distinguished in wisdom and most of all in eloquence and fluency of speech. He knew the most about the art of poetry, and from him poetry is called bragr, and from that also any man or woman is called bragr among men or women who has become most accomplished in this. His wife is Iðunn. She keeps in her casket those apples which the gods must bite into when they age, and then they all become young again, and so it continues until Ragnarök.
